DOG PARKS

The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District has two dog parks [North Clackamas and Happy Valley] totaling less than 1.75 acres to serve more than 100,000 citizens and 15,000 licensed dogs in Clackamas County.

According to the District's 2004 Master Plan, an additional 4.5 acres are needed. The specific recommendation for special use facilities is to acquire and develop a 3-acre dog park on each side of I-205.

A Dog Park is an area (most often fenced) where dog owners can take their dogs and allow them to play and exercise off-leash. It is a controlled environment in which dog owners take responsibility for their dog's actions while allowing their dogs time to socialize with other dogs, play and get much needed exercise. This is an area specifically for the DOGS. A good dog park is geared towards dogs' needs and interests, and requires attentive dog owners to ensure its success.

The Friends of North Clackamas Parks supports the recommendations of the Dogs in the Park Work Group to create more local dog parks as well as larger destination dog parks.
